Without warning her husband, Anna unexpectedly arrived at the cabin. But as soon as she entered the house, she felt like she was about to faint from what she saw….
But Max refused. Now he worked a lot, simply no time for rehearsals and performances. The guy’s life had completely different goals…
This stage is behind, passed, he explained to friends. A new turn started for me. All, now I’m adult.
Soon Max could rent a bigger apartment. Then a wedding without pomp and solemnity. Just sat with friends in a cafe and celebrated.
Money needed for other things. Baby stuff wasn’t cheap. Then Matthew was born.
And Max showed himself a wonderful father. Sensitive, attentive, caring. When the young parent held his son, his eyes shone with special light.
Anna saw. Her beloved is happy. It made her feel better.
The spouses went through a lot. Sleepless nights with the baby, lack of money, even relationship crisis. But coped.
Preserved warm feelings for each other. Both did a lot for their family to be strong and friendly now. Everything worked out well for them.
Bought an apartment, a car, even acquired a cabin, not to keep the child in the stuffy city all summer. To this very cabin Anna was heading now. She needed somewhere to spend time.
The woman sat on the bus taking her to the cabin plot, thoughtfully looking out the window. The sun shone bright from the sky, but fall had fully come into its rights. Yellowing trees, withered grass.
Air clean and transparent. Fields still dotted with flowers here and there. Anna never passed here at this time of year.
Everything familiar and yet somehow different. Strange this, not trusting Max. They’ve been together so many years.
He proved loyalty and devotion many times. What was that decision worth? Leave rock musician career, forget the dream. Max.
After all, since then he didn’t do music at all. When? Needed to earn money for the family. Only lately sometimes the man took the old guitar.
And even then only to teach his son simplest chords. Max is a wonderful father. Attentive and involved.
But his current behavior all points to Max having someone. And soon Anna will have proof. Probably.
Only what to do then? Anna didn’t know yet. The bus stopped at the needed stop. Anna got out.
It was quiet here now, unlike summer. In summer, kids on bikes everywhere. Conversations and laughter from behind fences.
But now as if extinct. Even eerie somehow. Anna moved along the street.
There among these stranger houses was their plot with Max. They rejoiced so when they could buy it. Lovingly arranged their nest.
Made it cozy and suitable for family rest. Rest exactly, not slavery on plantations. Both decided the cabin was needed only to pleasantly spend time in nature…
Their views almost always coincided. Anna opened the gate with a key and entered the yard. The house looked somehow abandoned and lonely.
The woman climbed the porch, pushed the door. Strangely, it was open. Did they forget to lock it in September when closing the cabin season? Strange.
Usually Max wasn’t so careless. But entering inside, Anna immediately understood. The house was quite inhabited.
Someone was here very recently. An ashtray on the table, cigarette still smoking in it. Chairs pushed back disorderly, someone’s hoodie on the bed.
Clearly stranger’s. And then a thought pierced Anna, making her even sweat. Of course.
How didn’t she guess right away? Why would Max bring a mistress to the apartment? Neighbors there, many witnesses. Obviously, he brought her to the cabin. The rooms were smoky.
Cigarette aroma mixed with sharp perfume scent. Fridge full of food. Seems the lady spends time here permanently.
That is, lives. At their cabin. The cabin bought for rest with the child.
What cynicism. But now no one was home. Silence stood.
All clear. Either went to the store or decided to walk the field or grove. Enjoy the fine fall day.
How romantic. Anna quickly walked into the big room. Here they usually lived as three when coming to the cabin…
