The mother-in-law jumped with a DNA test… The daughter-in-law’s answer left all the guests stunned

“Come on in, Maria!” he said warmly. “I’m thrilled to finally meet the girl my son’s been raving about.” But Elizabeth Andrea, Ethan’s mother, was far less hospitable toward her potential daughter-in-law. She scrutinized Maria from head to toe with a look of disdain, saying nothing at all.

With a scornful grimace, she grabbed Ethan’s arm and practically dragged him into the kitchen, leaving Maria standing bewildered at the threshold. “Ethan, listen to your mother,” she scolded, not bothering to lower her voice. “Who on earth did you bring into our home? Where did you find her? Is she hustling on the streets to make a living?” Her words were sharp and unrestrained. “Have you even looked at her? Or are you so blinded by infatuation? Red lipstick, red nails, and that dress—it’s so revealing, she doesn’t even need to bend over!”

“Why am I being punished like this?” Elizabeth continued, her voice dripping with contempt. “It’s as if she’s not a teacher but some stripper who just waltzed in from a nightclub.” Her harsh words echoed loudly, impossible to miss, especially for Maria, who stood nearby. She couldn’t help but hear every insult hurled her way.

With each cruel remark, tears welled up in Maria’s eyes. She couldn’t fathom what had provoked such a reaction from Ethan’s mother. Inspecting herself for reassurance, Maria found nothing that could justify such outrage. Her nails were neatly trimmed and coated with a tasteful layer of red polish, nothing ostentatious. Her dress, though slightly above the knee, was buttoned up completely, emphasizing its modesty. Her long blonde hair was elegantly gathered into a neat bun, adding a touch of sophistication to her appearance.

Maria remained at a loss, unable to pinpoint what about her look or behavior could have so enraged Elizabeth Andrea. Then she heard Ethan’s voice rise in her defense. “Mom, stop it right now! What’s with this tantrum?” he snapped, standing up for his girlfriend.

“I bought Maria that dress myself. Her manicure and makeup are perfectly fine. Did you expect me to bring home a nun? You don’t get to talk about my fiancée like that, or we’re going to have a serious problem.”

Elizabeth responded with even more venom. “Ethan, don’t you dare argue with your mother. I only want what’s best for you, and this girl with her red nails is clearly not it. Tell me, son, couldn’t you have dated a normal girl? Someone with a modest appearance? Don’t you see that girls like her, the overly pretty ones, won’t stay faithful? Mark my words, dear.

Look at our neighbor’s daughter, Megan. She’s such a sweetheart and an excellent homemaker. Sure, she’s not as flashy, but she’d be a loyal and devoted wife—not like this red-lipped floozy.”

Elizabeth didn’t get to finish her tirade before Ethan cut her off sharply. “That’s enough, Mom. You don’t know Maria at all to say such things about her. She’s the best thing in my life, got it? Tell your precious Megan to stop flirting with me every time we cross paths, because my heart’s already taken. Pass that along.

I know you too well—this is all your doing. You’ve been pushing Megan on me since high school. Stop playing matchmaker. I love Maria, and if you keep badmouthing her, our relationship is going to suffer. I’m building a life with her, not you.” Hearing Ethan defend her, Maria felt a wave of relief. He loved her, so everything would be okay.

After what she’d overheard, she’d been tempted to bolt from the house, but her beloved was on her side, which meant they’d be fine. Maria smiled and, in her mind, even shook a tiny fist at his mother.
