Fewer people, less noise. The husband’s nephews were very active. They’d been spoiled, and didn’t listen to anyone.

So Emily thought they’d at least sit quietly. She cooked from the heart. Several salads, baked chicken, cheese platter, cake.

Wanted everyone to see what a good hostess she was. The family nest in reliable hands. And so, when the guests had eaten their fill and were waiting for the food to settle to move to dessert, the mother-in-law suddenly made a statement.

«I look at the young couple and rejoice. What great kids!» she started with praise. «You two together, it’s easy for you to save for an apartment.

But our Katie is alone, with three little ones. She’ll never save. Right, Katie?» Regina Johnson nudged her daughter.

The sister-in-law sighed and nodded in agreement. And then her mother stunned the daughter-in-law and her parents by announcing that this apartment would have to be given to her daughter. Katie needs to live separately with the kids very much.

«Right, Mom!» Alex supported his mother. «You need rest, they run around. Let Katie take them and raise them herself.»

Emily thought her husband was joking and asked him if he really wanted to give this apartment to his sister. Alex assured her that that’s exactly what he meant. His mom is right.

Thanks to Emily’s parents for the help, but they’ll save for another apartment. Emily looked at her parents in fright. And they sat with surprised eyes.
