My wife and I adopted a newborn baby girl. When she was seven years old, my wife got pregnant. I WAS STUNNED when I heard WHAT my wife said, leaving the hospital
Mary was walking from the store with a heavy bag. She slipped and fell awkwardly right on her belly. «If only I always fell like that, onto a pillow!» Mary muttered, getting up and brushing herself off.
«Oh, dear, my heart sank when you fell on your belly!» A neighbor appeared out of nowhere. «Are you okay? You need to go to the hospital right away! Your baby must have had a rough time!» «I’m fine. Thanks for your concern, Aunt Betty!»
«Let me help you get to the hospital. We’ll take the bus now, it’s just two stops.» «No need for the hospital, thanks, Aunt Betty, I’ll go home.» «Hold on to me, we’ll walk slowly toward home. When we get home, I’ll call an ambulance for you. You need to get checked, you can’t joke with the baby’s health. You and John have waited for him so long!»
She stuck like glue. «I can’t shake her off,» Mary fumed inwardly. «Aunt Betty, were you going to the store? For some sausage, probably?» «Yes, for sausage.»
«They’ve almost sold out of it there. Run quickly if you want to get some.» «Oh, I’ll run! And you, Mary, when you get home, definitely call an ambulance.» «I will, Aunt Betty, I definitely will.»
In the evening, when her husband came home from work, Mary told him about what happened. «I told you not to start this show.» «John, enough! We’ve already discussed this. I don’t want the neighbors whispering in the corners that we took someone else’s child. Let everyone think it’s ours, our own, that I gave birth to it myself.»
«Your due date is coming up soon, and if they don’t offer us anyone for adoption, what will you tell the neighbors?» «Then it’s even better that Aunt Betty saw me fall. We’ll say something bad happened to the baby.» John said nothing, just shook his head.
He absolutely disliked the show Mary had started. Two weeks later, the couple was offered a newborn girl, fair-haired, just as they wanted. «A girl? We agreed on a boy,» Mary said.
«Aren’t you against taking a girl?» «I’m okay with a daughter. The main thing is that she’s healthy,» John replied. «And the timing is perfect. Your due date is approaching. Who knows how long we’d wait for a boy. You’d have to walk around with towels and pillows again.»
John loved his wife and was ready for anything, just so she would stop suffering over her inability to have a child. John wouldn’t mind living his whole life alone with his beloved wife without children. But with a child, it would be even better.
They had to go to a neighboring state for the girl. They stayed there for four days, met their future daughter, and completed the paperwork. There were no difficulties with the paperwork.
Of course, they had to pay, but everything was done quickly. The couple returned on the fifth day. To the neighbors, everything looked natural, as if John had brought Mary and the newborn daughter home from the hospital…
