The farmer only swapped one egg, giving the eagle egg to a hen to sit on. In return, the eagles got a plain old chicken egg.

Eventually, both eggs hatched. The camera caught the eagle’s reaction clear as day, and man, was he confused by whatever popped out of that egg in his nest.

The farmer didn’t let the experiment drag on too long, though—those eagles were way too stressed out. He quickly returned the eaglet to the nest, and the birds welcomed it back like nothing ever happened.
